Booking Through Thursday: Multiples

Do you have multiple copies of any of your books?
If so, why? Absent-mindedness? You love them that much? First Editions for the shelf, but paperbacks to read?
If not, why not? Not enough space? Not enough money? Too sensible to do something so foolish?
Not one. And for all three of the reasons above. I can’t really see the point in owning more than one copy of a book; and even if I could afford it, I would still be running out of shelf space! I’m not sure how much I have left, but I’m sure it’s under two metres. I can see myself ending up like Rory in Gilmore Girls, with books stuffed into spare drawers!

I agree, especially with limited space. I have four bookcases full now and my husband would like to keep from adding any more.

My answer was that I DO have multiple copies of my most favorite book. Mostly because I started searching for collector's editions and because I'd loan my books out only to have them disappear.

I don't really have the space either, but I still collect the books. LOL I do try not to duplicate them, but there are exceptions. :-)

How very disciplined of you! I rarely set out to get duplicates, but, as my BTT post reveals, the best laid plans...

Barbara: Four bookcases! I'm jealous - I have only two. Or maybe two and a half, if I squeeze all my uni stuff up close together.

Carrie: Loaning books is definitely an occasion when you want to have a spare!

Literary Feline: Lack of space isn't going to stop me, eiher. If I have room to move, I have room for books.

StuckInABook: I don't think it's discipline so much as luck and preparation. The morning of my annual BookFest pilgrimage always sees me doing a last-minute scan of the bookshelves to refresh my memory as to what I already have. So far, it's worked; but I have doubts as to my ability to keep remembering which two dozen Agatha Christies I've got.
